This painting presents two owls inspired by taxidermy specimens I encountered during a wildlife conservation presentation at the Hyannis Public Library. The work pays homage to the ancient connection between owls and the mythological figures of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, and Hekate, linked to the night and witchcraft. Rendered in a loosely expressionistic style, the piece layers vibrant textures and colors to evoke the magical and wise nature of these nocturnal creatures, while considering the immediacy and complexity often found in wildlife conservation narratives.
