Kai Barrows founded Kai Bee Studios, an independent illustration and creative education practice, in 2019 as a response to wanting to create art as a professional for their friends and community. What started as a social media presence to share snippets of works in progress has grown into a home for their art, products, exhibitions and classes.
Kai is a QTBIPOC illustrator and arts educator from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. They love drawing cute things and making comics. A lot of their work is about centering women and nonbinary characters in fantasy stories, while subverting the genre. They’re mostly interested in sapphic narratives and reinventing the kinds of stories they grew up with, but that they wished represented a queer, black audience.
