Illustrated Essay made for Long Shore Drift Magazine
WHEN I DIE WHAT WILL I LEAVE BEHIND? is a booklet zine comprised of drawn on photos and an essay/poetry over collage about memory, identity, and the impulse (or instinct) to collect things. It reflects on what we gather and why, and our reflection in those who acknowledge our paraphernalia. It’s a personal archive, as well as a meditation on collecting as connection. The piece follows a path through nostalgia, queer kinship, and the subtle ways we find each other in a world where self identification can be intimidating, a challenge, and sometimes even dangerous. What begins as a simple scavenger’s instinct unfolds into something weighed down by complex contradictions of philosophy and practice:
Boiled down WIDWWILB is a love letter to memorabilia.
